Abstract : This report is part of a series of studies on gender impact
assessment of the programmes of the 5th Framework Programme for Research,
Technological Development and Demonstration, which were launched by the European
Commission, DG Research. The Institute for Social-ecological Research (ISOE) ,
Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, was commissioned to assess the Sub-Programme
"Environment and Sustainable Development". The results of the study are
available in the
CORDIS Document Library. The present publication is based on the results of
the first step of the study: a review of the state of the art in gender and
environment/sustainability research. After two chapters giving an overview of
the main lines of discussion and identifying gender-relevant dimensions and
priority issues, the remaining chapters present the state of the art of gender
research in the following specific thematic fields of environment and
sustainability research:
- Urban sustainability;
- Global change, climate and biodiversity;
- Sustainable marine ecosystems;
- Sustainable management and quality of water;
- Natural and technological hazards;
- Earth observation technologies;
- Socio-economic aspects of environmental change.
