University-industry forum on sustainability

  A European university-industry forum on sustainability will be held in Bonn, Germany on 26 and 27 February.

The event is being organised by COPERNICUS-CAMPUS, the European university network for sustainability, and will be supported by the European Commission under the Education and Culture DG's Socrates programme.

The forum is intended to enhance mutual understanding by presenting best practices within universities and industry in the field of sustainable development, and to strengthen partnerships by exploring the options for further innovative cooperation.

The main conference themes will be:
- best practices in universities and companies;
- research and technology for sustainable development;
- corporate social responsibility;
- human resources: what kind of skills are needed for sustainable development;
- e-learning as a link between universities and companies.

First international conference on sustainable planning and development
  The Wessex Institute of Technology and the University of Thessaly are organising the first international conference on sustainable planning and development, to take place from 1 to 3 October on Skiathos Island, Greece.
Sustainable Planning and Development 2003 will address the subjects of spatial planning and regional development in an integrated way as well as in accordance with the principles of sustainability.
The conference will be of interest to planners, environmentalists, engineers, ecologists, economists, policy makers and other government officials, researchers and academics involved in the field of sustainability.
The event will enable participants to keep up-to-date with the latest advances in the field, present their research within a unique forum, and collaborate with experts from around the world.

Paris to host first global forum on sustainable development

  The first global forum on sustainable development will take place from 27 to 29 November in Paris, France.

The forum will bring together business and government decision-makers and experts, representatives from civil society, academics and moral authorities to share and compare views and discuss projects and initiatives regarding sustainable development.

Specifically, the forum will tackle three priority areas - water, energy and health - and broaden its scope to a variety of fundamental factors such as food, transportation, the environment, new information and communication techniques, corporate governance, large-scale distribution and education.

The forum is being hosted under the patronage of French President Jacques Chirac.
